The Fall Risk Reduction Program offers intern opportunities that can fulfill requirements in completing college course units and also gain valuable fieldwork experience in their chosen profession. We welcome applicants from any college or university especially in the disciplines of Health Science, Kinesiology, Gerontology, or Nursing.  Spectrum Community Services, Inc., has an established affiliation with California State University Hayward (East Bay).

The Fall Risk Reduction Program is designed as a preventative strategy, targeting low income and frail seniors at risk of losing their independence due to injury and/or complications resulting from a fall.  The program utilizes a number of key elements, which play an important role in prevention of accidental falls. The intern will assist the program manager in the following components of the program:

  • Provide safety and fall prevention classes to seniors
  • Group exercise classes that focus on strength, balance, mobility and flexibility
  • Physical Assessments and reassessments of participants
  • Participation in community outreach at local senior centers, senior residences, and health fairs
  • Presentations to senior residences and caregivers
  • Administrative work as directed

Prospective Interns must:

  • Be currently enrolled at their college/university
  • Be eligible at their college/university to be enrolled in the internship program
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Be enthusiastic and willing to work with the senior population
